How to Burn Songs Onto a Blank CD

Burning your music files onto a CD gives your songs portability to be played in your car, another computer or a CD player. Many computers come with a built-in CD burner, but you can also buy an external burner if your computer does not have such a drive. To burn your music onto a CD, you will need media-playing software such as iTunes or Windows Media Player. You can create a play list of songs to burn onto a blank CD.

Step 1
Open the iTunes program on your computer. Select the "New Playlist" option from the "File" menu at the top of the window. Name your play list.

Step 2
Click on the "Music" button underneath the "Library" section on the left side of the window. Browse your music library to locate the songs you want to burn. If your songs are not already in iTunes, import the files by using the "Add File to Library" option in the "File" menu.

Step 3
Add songs to your play list by clicking on the file and dragging it into the play list name on the left side of the window. Continue this process until your play list includes all of the songs you want to burn onto a CD.

Step 4
Insert a blank CD-R for music into your CD burner. Right-click on the play list name and select the "Burn Playlist to Disc" option. Click "Burn" to begin copying the songs onto the blank CD. Wait for iTunes to finish burning the songs onto the CD before you remove the disc.

Windows Media Player

Step 1
Open the Windows Media Player program on your computer. If the songs you want to burn are not in your Windows Media Player library, add them by pressing the "F3" key and locating the files on your computer.

Step 2
Click on the "Burn" tab at the top of the window. Browse your music library to locate the songs you want to copy to a CD. Drag the files into the pane on the right side that reads "Drag items here to create a burn list." Continue dragging files into the play list until it includes all of the songs you want to burn.

Step 3
Insert a blank CD-R for music into your CD burner. Press the "Start Burn" button located beneath your play list. Wait for Windows Media Player to finish burning the songs to the CD before ejecting the disc.
